Out of shape

Today, I was feeling really good about going to the gym for the first time. That was until I got so worn out from my “warm up” on the treadmill that I had to go home and spew. FML

First impressions

Today, I joined a gym. I’m overweight and not very athletic, so I was nervous. I looked around and tried a treadmill. I start walking at a chill pace, then got ambitious and cranked it to a "light jog." Within seconds, I tripped, fell, and sent the emergency stop button flying across the room. The gym staff ran over and I swear someone said, “Well, at least he’s trying.” FML

Don't get too discouraged! Let your body rest and then start smaller and/or slower. You got this!

Nevertheless, you're making the effort to improve. It's not going to always be a perfectly smooth road, but the important part is to keep trying - There's no shame in starting slow.

Spewing is a great way to lose weight! The treadmill is a wonderful diversion from your bulimia.

From someone who's done that a few times, it helps to find a few gentle exercises--yoga, chair exercises, that kind of thing--and practice moving while paying attention to how your body feels. When you've gotten the hang of that, you should be able to tell what exercises are helpful and what aren't. It sounds like running isn't something your body likes doing, so taking the time to find out what DOES work will help more in the long run.
