I don't order pizza delivery. The whole system disgusts me. I tip servers who tend to me a half-dozen or more times during a meal. A pizza delivery is not nearly equivalent. Drivers should be paid fairly, but right-wing pricks who run the big companies prevent that.
You've got to be kidding me. I delivered pizza for about 1.5 yrs at PJs and I've been a waitress several places. As a delivery driver, you have to take orders, ring up customers, answer phones, clean the whole restaurant, make sure you have all parts of their order together, then FIND THEM. Addresses are often wrong or incomplete, people don't answer doors or phones, and I've had to drive almost 20 miles to make one delivery to make $1.55. Also risking your life and car constantly. Other drivers got in accidents frequently, often not their fault. I got hit once and narrowly missed many accidents. So yes, delivery drivers do a lot more for you than just "show up!" That being said, I was usually tipped okay and loved the job. But tip your drivers!!!
when I used to drive for domino's we would earn mileage pay.
That's why I always tip at least $5. One time, I ordered pizza from the place right next door to my school. They literally only had to pull from their lot into ours ( winter in Michigan=no walking unless you want to fall on your face). I still tipped $5.
Why don't employers pay their workers instead of passing on the difference to customers who seem to have a choice whether to pay or not. Raise food prices by 20% and pay your employees a proper wage. I seriously don't understand why it is set up like this.
I feel you.. delivering pizza is degrading, poorly paid and a rightful pain in the ass... but hey, after you finish school (assuming you do this next to school like me) there will be light at the end of the tunnel!
I really don't understand why people continue to work at places like this. I understand that a job's a job, but you could work in retail. You'll still deal with idiot customers, but at the end of the day you get to take home a full paycheck without relying on tips to make money. Let me be clear that I'm not blaming the employees here, just stating that there are better options out there...I despise the American concept of not paying people in food service a living wage and expecting them to rely on tips.
Do what I did when I used to deliver pizza. Note the address of the POS who love tipping 3 cents and slash their tires when you want to get revenge on them
not trying to be an ass, but you chose the job. you know to consequences
And you are still being an ass because the economy is so ****** that people have to take any job they can, at wages that are barely legal, and can't complain because they would lose their job. And it's damn near impossible to even get an interview for a different job lined up unless you already have a job.
So what you're saying is that no one should be pizza delivery people anymore since the job sucks, and then the jerks who won't tip can drive to get their own damn pizzas?? I like that plan!

Can someone explain why pizza places don't simply add a delivery charge?
Its not about that, its mostly that people dont know just how much someone depends on those tips to actually make a living wage. I would never know there was such a thing as being a pizza driver with your own car and your own gas since there is no such thing in my country. Tips are also considered extra in my country since everyone hired legally earns at least minumum wage regardless of tips.
