Today, I had an hour-long massage, meditated for while and was finally feeling good. Then I had to call an ambulance for my idiot father who had managed to get alcohol poisoning. FML

Anyone who says OP is selfish has obviously never lived with someone who has alcoholism. It's extremely stressful, especially when they refuse to admit they have a problem and won't get help. And since OP is the one who had to call the ambulence I'm guessing she's also the one who usually ends up caring for his drunk ass when he's had a few too many. It's completely unfair for the father to put all that responsibility on his child, if anything I'd say he's the selfish one.

So a man walks into a bar... ...his alcoholism is destroying his family.

I agree with #24 and alot of the others, this is not an FML unless you are a stuck up bitch, which seems like you most likely are.

Poor you, had to call an ambulance for your alcoholic father, that's the worst possible thing in the world

if they were a real meditator /yogi they'd be more philosophical about it. this just sounds like: poor me, the fucken asshole ruined my day. scum of the earth why doesn't he just go fucken die and quit being sooooo burdensome. I'm meditating for ****'s sake!

I am so sorry for both your interrupted relaxation & your fathers pain and suffering. I feel for you both. I have been on both ends of the spectrum, and both suck! I wish both of you well wishes. God bless you both.

I agree 46. people just see drinking as having fun, which it can be don't get me wrong, but a lot of people don't realize how it can tear a person down, and everyone around them at the same time. alcoholism is no joke. it kills people all of the time. my ex boyfriends father was so bad that when he found out he had cancer he didn't tell anyone because he knew that his family would make him stop drinking. they didn't find out about his cancer until he died, from alcohol poisoning.

Better that than a slow torture by chemical overdose. (also known as chemotherapy) Some people prefer to choose their own way out at the end. If op wasn't such a prude she could have a few with her father. I'm sure he would respect her opinion more if she tried to understand that she was a large part of the reason for his alcoholism.

Umm, alcoholism tends to run in the family. So no, the OP should not 'have a few' with her father. And OP didn't say anything about the reason for his alcoholism, so I don't understand why you would make the point to say it's her fault.

@70 My mom had chemo 11 years ago and she's fine now. Slow death, how? And the OP isn't a prude for complaining about her father's alcoholism, it's hard ******* work dealing with an alcoholic parent when you're suppose to be the child!

70 - I usually take your comments at face value and I do consider most of them quite valuable. This comment, however, was just plain rude. How dare you say it's OP's fault her dad's a drunk? Maybe she isn't/never was the problem! Some people don't even have a reason for drinking to that point. They do it because they feel like it, end of story. Maybe OP typically does have a few drinks with her father. Do you know whether she does or not for sure? Of course you don't! She's not a prude just because her father's an idiot and got so drunk he needed to be hospitalized. Come on, now! 76 - I am very sorry to hear about your mother having to go through chemotherapy. On the bright side, she's 11 years without cancer, and for that I am glad. I definitely second all of your comment!

I agree with 75, and it is pretty selfish to complain about having to save someone's life. Mario never complains about having to save the princess.
