Prejudice

Today, I was hanging out with a friend out of state. He had some friends with him and we were all having a great time, until they found out I live in Utah. They instantly assumed I was Mormon and started to act weird around me. This is a frequent occurrence. FML

start asking them if they would like to hear about our lord and savior Cthulu

It should be as simple as: "Are you mormon?" "No" " Ok cool" Your friends are idiots.

I live in wyoming, but right on the border of Utah, this is a frequently assumed thing here too. I don't understand people. Even if you were Mormon, weren't they fine with you before they thought you were? Oh well, at least you don't have to hang out with them often.

That happens to me all to frequently.... I feel your pain.

Even if you are Mormon, why would they act weird around you? I don't know any Mormons but I assume most of them are all right.

You're right #27..I happen to know many mormons and they are the most clean and best people I know.

It helps if you're a little proactive about dissuading people of their assumptions. Ordering a round of beer for your friends, or the occasional "Hail, Satan!" usually works.

I am a Mormon, so I know how you feel. I have had people treat me like some kind of mad cultist before when they find out I'm a Mormon from Utah, it's definitely never fun.

That's too bad, 29! I've got a friend that's Mormon, a friend that's Jehovah's Witness, an old friend that's now Buddhist, many Muslim acquaintances, have met some very lovely Jewish folks, athiests, agnostics, etc etc. And I'm originally from a very rural small town in the middle of the Bible belt. People are people. You know? We might have different beliefs, find humor in different things, and so forth, but I don't get why sometimes people get so weird about it. Its nice to learn about other cultures, celebrate differences, while also finding comonalitites. Tl;dr Everyone's human- celebrate it!

I had a friend who actually was in a cultlike group when I first met her. Mormon is definitely not a cult. The group she was in tried to isolate her from her friends and family. And really got nasty to her when she would choose family over them. The Mormons I know are some of the most warm, welcoming people I know and are very integrated in their community. There's no isolation.

What's wrong with being Mormon? I have had Mormon friends, but then again, Im muslim.

Even if you were Mormon there is no reason they need to act weird around you. It's just a religion. Unless you're preaching to them it shouldn't matter.

I'm a Utah native living in California and it always astounds me the questions I get. "How many sister wives do you have? Can I see your magic underwear?"

Here's a question...why are there 10 hot dog buns in a pack but only 8 hot dogs in a pack?

In Canada it's 8 buns and 12 dogs. Though some brands specifically sell 12 bun packs just to keep people from having to math.

Over where you live, it's illegal to marry your cousin. ......Until you turn 65. Then it's completely legal.
