It’s very rare that a child ever needs to hear from a parent something like that - Unless they are delusional and need a dose of reality… As a parent it’s far wiser to tell children hard truths about things they can change… There are different kinds of ugliness - from an unpleasant character to a poor sense of style to physical attributes. OP, listen when people tell you something you can do something about and take it to heart. But remember that even our family and loved ones can have a brain fart or say something out of anger that isn’t true.
