Sucks! happened to me a few weeks back, kinda traumatising.. I just walked across and WHAM.. he reversed quickly to parallel park or something. Worse was that instead of having worried on lookers I had some toothless old man laugh..

Even if they had they would have seen a car going (or at least pointing) away from them and probably would not have expected it to reverse.

Normally, when crossing a one-way street, you really only have to look one way. Sadly, you're right about looking both ways; a lot of drivers are complete morons these days.

Sucks that you got hit, but one-way street or not you should have looked both ways. Traffic signs don't prevent people from doing stupid things. Best to be safe and assume that every driver is an idiot.

Even if they had looked the other way they would have seen a car pointing away from them, more than likely one that was either still moving the right way before it backed up, or was stationary while they switched gears. When I see a car stopped/moving away from me it does not make me want to avoid crossing the street.

#24 But the car would be showing reversing lights... Op you didn't deserve to get run over, no-one does - but next time just assume that all road-users are likely to do something dumb so you are prepared if they actually do!
