Road hazard

Today, while driving home, I looked in the rear-view mirror and saw that my three-year-old daughter had managed to get out of her seat and had crawled to the back window. I pulled over and strapped her in again. Five minutes later she was back at the window. FML

I just love all the people who have clearly never been around a three year old commenting. Each car seat is different so as annoying as it may be she may need to try a different seat. But for people saying clearly the kid isn't buckled right.... if a buckle is inordinately hard to unbuckle its going to make getting the kid out of the car a challenge. I believe they also make covers for the buckles for this reason as well.

better to be hard to get the buckle undone to get the kid out than the kid be able to kid out themself

That's true until the moment you have to get your kid out of the car because it's going to burn. They want the seat belt difficult to open for the child but not so difficult that in the event of an emergency the child can not be retrieved from the car quickly.

You need to find out how she is getting out (is she able to undo the buckle? Or is she slipping her arms out of the straps an then wiggling out?) and then research how to stop her from doing it. Toddlers getting out of their car seats is a very scary thing. So glad mine has never tried.

How about putting her near a window? Might actually solve your problem

There's actually a product on the market that prevents that (it's a kind of like a seatbelt lock similar to what you put on cupboards), as I had to use one yrs ago when my ex gf's 3 yr old would get loose & try to roll down the back window & crawl out while we were driving...oh, & he (the 3 yr old) thought it was funny that he could get loose. We didn't think so...other than that, I'd suggest a car seat.

mine used to the same thing unfortunately it took her flying to the car after a quick stop to stay in her seat with seatbelt on

Maybe jerry rig an extra strap with a buckle she can't manage. Good luck. She sounds amazing but a handful.

Also you might want to explain to her what might happened if she doesn't stay buckled. If she's five she should, for the most part, understand.

I don't see how unless its a bad or hand me down car seat.the chest strap I could see but the buckle is so strong I can barely unclick it
