Aww, that sucks. The same thing happened to me my freshman year in high school. I couldn't imagine going through it in college.
You should just drop the class and make sure it gets wiped clean with a hardship withdrawal petition. Cuz you really can't be in the wrong (academically) when you have medical probs.
It's illegal. Talk to the dean, and possibly a lawyer. If you hate the guts out of that asshole, make a permanent stain on HIS record. That should be sufficient payback.
#74: I agree that it's absurd to say that if all of your class work is A material a professor cannot fail you, however, especially in College, the professors have much more say in the final grade. I'm not saying that they'll fail you if they don't like you, but I've had more than one professor that has given me an A- when my grade in the class based on work was clearly a B+. As for the dean and department chair, I agree it's pointless if it truely is university policy, but seeing as only one professor seems to be giving the OP this problem it's possible that the professor's just being a dick.
"Wait . . . I'm sorry, does your professor think that the fact that he got his degree and spent hours and hours preparing lessons/lectures/grading badly-done papers and homeworks entitles him to have some control or the final say? How dare he! Wow, nail his ass to the wall for that one, really. He ought to knwo that he's there for you, you, you and that you should have no liability but all the control and freedom that you want." Umm, what the ****? He was being treated for a life threatening illness beyond his control...
yeah #78 its illegal to be failed when you missed class dumbass, why don't you try going to college. They don't have to make exceptions for people that have excuses to miss class.
That is so dumb. You should report him. Tell him to go screw himself. Heartless bastard
Why didn't you explain to your school that you were gouing to be out for a while, or if you were really sick have someone go tell them, or email them.

I've had similar issues (I miss a lot of class due to illness as well). Go to the dean of students or if your school has a Student Disability Center or something. Rules may be rules but you cannot penalize a student for something that's beyond their control, it's illegal.
Have you tried talking to the dean of students? If anything, you could try to get the class marked as incomplete or dropped (or stricken from the record entirely).
