Today, and for the past 13 months, I've been living in the States. I've been called a Nazi, asked if we have electricity in Germany, and been made fun of the way I speak with my "German accent", the list goes on. I'm not even German, I'm Danish. FML

Laugh at their ignorance. Or agree with their Nazi joke and let them know they could be next.

I guess, when you moved to America, you did Nazi that coming.

Most german natives do not have an accent when they speak English. I think the problem is just that America is very america-oriented. For example, Europeans are much more world-oriented. In Belgium (where I'm from), for example 60% of the population is AT LEAST bilingual, if not multilingual. I'd like to see that happen in America.

Not all European countries are bilingual. In Hungary for example, the country I'm currently studying abroad in, less than 1/3 of the country is bilingual. Hungarians have so little interaction with foreigners, that accents of foreign students can confuse them to the degree where they will even refuse service. Also, foreign language programs were actually required in my (US) high school, and there was a huge variety to choose from. Every country has idiots; please don't judge the whole population based on its lowest denominator.

I understand I'm from Canada, and when I went to Orlando, I was asked if I lived in an igloo.. I just laughed. Oh I was also asked if I was from Toronto or Vancouver, because you know those are the only cities in Canada...

I am so very sorry for my fellow American's immense stupidity! Please understand that not all of us are like that. Again I'm really sorry

I suggest you go back. Americans are IDIOTS

Americans are so mean I once went there because I am from Canada and one girl looked me up and down and talked bad about me even though they don't know me they never do something like that here in Canada

Please understand that not all Americans are like that! Every country has people who are ignorant and rude. Either you've had the misfortune of meeting huge twats, or they clammed up and tried breaking the ice in the most awkward, inappropriate way. As an American studying out of country, I have had somewhat similar experiences. Most people like to introduce their country of origin by saying "hey, take a guess! Here's a clue, our countries are at war!". And I hate when people generalize Americans, saying they're all "fat, stupid, lazy, ignorant, and rude....except you of course!" because I happen to break all those stereotypes. Either cut them off and tell them straight up how inappropriate it is, or learn to grow thicker skin. Still, FYL.

You people are calling us Americans so many negative name. Do you guys really know America? If you were born here you people would not be talking bad about this country. Their will be idiots everywhere, you can't possibly think everywhere but America is smart.

I hate to bring up an inconvenient truth, but there were PLENTY of Scandinavian nazis during the war and even after it for quite a while. The op's point stands however. Not many people know this and it's likely this American was the typical ignorant stereotyper.

because immature douche bags will always do that. something about 12-16 yr olds all r soo mean. most 17 18 19 and 20 yr olds are generally really mature.
