If it wasn't for a job, it'd be kinda grimy thing to do (I hung out with girls that did that just to be grimy and "Ohh, look at me, I'm fighting the man by being a grimy tramp (because I haven't gotten to the level of just stealing stuff)"). But considering the situation, I give you mad props for resourcefulness.

I work at a cosmetics counter. We don't like it when customers freely do that. Its not very sanitary. Its better if you just ask one of us to apply your makeup for you. Its cleaner, and even if you don't buy anything, its our job and we'd be happy to do it for you. Hope your interview went well
