so there are 100 servers at your resteraunt? (asuming you split the tip evenly)
Dude you really don't know resturant business, say there are 6 waiters and 3 busboys, you get a dollar, well sure as hell you're not keeping, cause all they get is like 5 dollars an hour, so tips came in, where if you got a dollar, or ten, you would split it, getting extra for your good service, some waiters are working hard if you don't notice them running around saying phrases over and over. How would you like it if someone got a $500 tip and that one waiter kept it all to himself, it would suck no?
Thats what you get for not checking signatures on the card.
@ #128 - I know the restaurant business and it is still ******* lame. God forbid the waiter that maybe EARNED a large tip got to KEEP the large tip instead of having to split it with the "I'm an entitled douchebag" servers he or she works with.
YDI, That's why you should always check the card for the name and ID...I know it was the OP's parents, but if you do it every time it becomes second nature and he would've realized it before he processed it. As far as the tipping thing goes in general...it's bullshit. I've been in restaurants where one girl takes my order, another brings out my salad, some other kid brings out my dinner, and another girl refills my drink. Who the hell do I tip? Not to mention that it's not my fault that they don't get paid enough. That's what I liked about Japan...they felt it was an insult to tip as that meant that the employer wasn't paying enough. Don't get me wrong, I do tip...when people deserve it. If they don't deserve it, why should I tip? I've actually given 100% tips before...the service was excellent, as was the food. And I tip cooks. Again, only if they deserve it though.
Well if he keeps all the money he is tipped, what are the others supposed to keep? Nothing, when that guy has $500??
make them pay you!

I hope you told them that you had to split the tips. What a waste. they thought they were being clever and wasted all your tip money. Heh. FYL indeed.
