As an advanced ASL student, I've been in this exact situation smh
something similar happened to me while working drive thru at McDonalds. I was taking an oder with the headset and this crazy racist bitch said I was calling her crazy. all because I was talking to the person who was placing an order. she thought I was calling her crazy because I was "talking to myself " and smiling while she was waiting for her food at the window.
My bestfriend is deaf and we've had this happen way too many times! The best thing to do is just laugh it off and feel sorry for her. It would suck to be that insecure about yourself.
Normally I'd be annoyed that this mentioned the body size of the idiotic woman, but in this case, I have to say, if she's that insecure, ffs get out of McDonald's!
I am always paranoid that people are talking about me when they are laughing near me. But I wouldn't confront anyone about it.
She's projecting her own insecurities on you. I kind of get it.

That's when you give her the finger. But in all seriousness, you could try and explain to her that you were playing a game. She's obviously very insecure about her wait.
Some people are just really insecure about themselves. I know if I'm out running errands looking disheveled (because yoga pants are for running errands, right?) with my back brace on and a gaggle of women start laughing at something I'll anxiously think they're laughing at me.
