Pretty sure anything broken is the landlord's responsibility, not yours. You may have to get the authorities in on this one.
That was a mistake. Don't ever improve a rental. In most cases any improvement you do that's attached to the building legally becomes the property of the landlord. I won't say YDI, but you done goofed. Also, you moved into the place with busted fixtures and didn't even ask the landlord if he was going to fix them? Another mistake.

depending on the region you live in you can speak to the municipal renatls board and have the rent hike thrown out if you can prove you did the repairs. as well as you are required by law to be given a minimum of 30 days notice of a rent increase
