I think OP may have the wrong end of the stick here! Consider: OP: "Honey! Come in here for a minute. I need to speak to you." Daughter:"Erm. OK Dad." OP:"There's something I've been meaning to talk to you about for a while now." Daughter:"Erm... Dad..." OP:"You see, there are some things that aren't really suitable for kids to be told. But... Well... you're older now and I think you should know something". Daughter:"Oh Shit! Oh Shit! I know where this is going and it's going to be mortifying!" OP:"You see: when you were a little girl your mom couldn't look after you and so she gave you to us to take care of. You see, so what I'm saying is: You were adopted." Daughter:"Oh Thank God!" "I thought it was going to be _that_ talk!".
Sorry - the "Oh Shit" line and the last quote were supposed to be a thoughts, but I put that in angle-brackets and it got stripped out as HTML tags. Ho Hum.
And you chose to wait until she was ... 16? Yep, you deserve every ounce of scorn, anger and hatred she throws at you. Have fun, fake parent.
I dunno about this. I'm very torn on the subject. Like Doc said way earlier, your parents are your parents no matter what, so it shouldn't matter if you're adopted or not. And it's up to the parents to decide when, or if, to tell them. I hope to adopt one day and I'm not sure I'd even tell them. They're my child and that's that. Nowadays the definition of 'family' is very vague..
I read something where kids were making fun of a girl because she was adopted. The little girl said,"at least I was chosen, your parents are stuck with you!"
Hello?
Wait, you say daughter, so she wasn't adopted?
