Teambuilding

Today, I was so nervous introducing myself to my new team, I actually mispronounced my own name, badly, and now that’s how everyone refers to me, but again, I’m too nervous to correct anyone. It’s been a week already, so correcting them now would be extra weird. FML

Have your name legally changed to what they know you as. Problem solved.

I jokingly introduced myself as "Steve" in a group meeting once and members of that group still call me that. My name isn't Steve.

I feel bad for finding this as funny as I do. I can even sort of relate, having a bit of social anxiety myself. But the longer you wait, the more awkward it's going to be. My advice would be to suck it up, explain what happened, and let them know what your correct name is. "I've been going along with the wrong name for a week" is a little awkward. "I've been going along with the wrong name for a year" is a lot awkward.

You can start that stupid trend where everybody's name is Snake. Then, after a week of everybody calling everyone Snake, someone will ask what's your real name, and you can pronounce it correctly.

Are you Jerry/Terry/Larry/Garry Gergich/Gengirch?
