I would have ended the interview as well. You don't keep your cell phone on in any appointment like situation, it's rude. Sorry, but that really should have been common sense to have it either turned off or on silent and put away.
It's easy, put the phone on mute Is it really that difficult
Should've put it on vibrate or airplane mode
As someone who interviews candidates a LOT, you could have quickly apologized for the oversight. Bringing your phone in to an interview is a serious faux pas. It screams that you think that your time is more important than my time. Most job prep sites and recruiters will tell you same. Lesson learned.
YDI, why would anybody ever leave their phone on in an interview, or not silence it anyway? I'd turn it off altogether. I've had a phone ring in silent mode, highly unlikely but not worth the risk. Anybody who needs you can leave a message, it doesn't need to be on. I agree it was rude, I'd be very annoyed by somebody who can't even turn their phone down for the duration of an interview... I'd be wondering how you'd manage to turn it off for your whole shift and if you'd refrain from using it for that long.
Is there such thing as common sense anymore?
I am sure the interviewer is not offended, but more like, "I cannot trust someone who does not know they should have at least their phone on silent during an interview work for me". It is like sitting through an exam or a movie.. You leave cell phones on silent or turn them off if you do not want to create a scene.
This is the worst FML ever.
I explain at the beginning of the interview I'm the emergency contact for my mum and she has problems *explained in more depth obv* they normally don't mind. then again...my mum is sick so...
That's why you should turn off your phone. Sucks for you, but I guess you learned a lesson. I once had a job interview where the interviewer himself had left his phone on and it was ringing the whole time. He even picked one up during my interview and told me to wait. That's when I left, telling him it's disrespectful and unprofessional. I guess it's pretty much the same thing, you can tell a bit about the person the way they treat you in the job interview.

It should have been on silent but the interviewer still should have been more understanding...and who would actually want to work for someone who overreacts like that anyways
Well now you know for next time i guess. My mom usually does the same thing -_-
