Always keep your phone off or at least on silent for an interview. I'd throw someone out too.
Major YDI. Sorry but in a competitive job market with dozens or hundreds of applicants per job leaving a phone on is not only irresponsible but rude to the interviewer as well. My rule of thumb is to always shut it off before I enter the building and not turn it on again until I am out the door. That way there is no chance of my phone interrupting any part of the interview.
I don't understand how you could let that happen. always turn your phone OFF before something like that. I don't blame the employer for kicking you out. Idea

It should have been on silent but the interviewer still should have been more understanding...and who would actually want to work for someone who overreacts like that anyways
