The argument for fake IDs

By bryans_fresh - This FML is from back in 2009 but it's good stuff - United States

Today, I wanted to use my gift card for a liquor store. I went to pay the cashier, who said he needed to see my license. I gave it to him, along with my gift card. After paying, he asked me if I wanted him to cut it up, since the card was now worthless. I said yes. He cut up the wrong card. FML

#4: Actually, the cashier is required to hold the license in their hands and examine it closely to make sure it isn't counterfeit. Most licenses have a watermark that reflects when held the right way, this is why they are supposed to actually hold it in their hands. So, in short: shut up, you have no idea what you're saying. As for the OP, sucks dude. I hope you're getting the cashier to pay for it!! :/

******* Downey, your obviously under age and have no clue what your talking about "dipshit"

@77 Maybe it was a joke gift or something? @78 It wasn't a debit card, it was his driver's license. And the other card was a store issued gift card, so why would he go to the bank anyway?

That's when you say I need to see your manager cause someones paying for a new card an it isn't me. Those can be pricy to replace.

who cuts a card up? its not like it needed to be shredded, no one's getting personal information from a used gift card. Why the hell wouldn't he just throw it away?

I work in retail and we are encouraged to take gift cards when they are empty.. do you even understand the amount of idiots who come in and insist there's 50 dollards on an empty card? and the time it takes to calm them down.. and assure them that it is actually empty? more than you would guess, many more. Honestly, the cutting it up makes not a lot of sense maybe just a way to get rid of it instead of throwing a card in the trash I'm not sure.. either way taking it makes sense if it's empty.

Whoever is doing YDI because "no one cuts up gift cards" or "you are lazy": It's not like the OP asked the cashier to. The cashier apparently thinks that they need to (so if anything, they are the idiot, not the OP), and like a normal person, he said "yes" (probably more like sure) because he doesn't care if the empty card is cut or not. FML because now you have to waste your time getting a new one.

#11 you are supose to cut up the gift gards when they are empty and the customer doesnt want to reload them. I work for tim hortons and do it about 100 times a day.
