Wow, that's a double FYL and a trauma 2-for-1.
eleven!? ELEVEN!
ouch ur parents are jack asses , but srsly how have you not seen your birth certificate? i have seen my a bunch of times and im only 16 i think the first time i saw it i was 6. my only worry is that they got me and my sister confused since we r twins i always think what if i was the oldest lol
you're not dumb because of developmental delays. you can have a fine "IQ" and have just had a slower rate of development than the average kid. everyone does not grow at the same rate nor do the have the same abilities at the same time. your parents handeled it poorly though.
Developmental issues doesn't neccessarily mean mental. If a child walks before crawling, which is possible, it could cause developmental issues. And even if it was a mental thing, it still doesn't make the OP dumb, or give the parents a good reason to hold her back at all, let alone lie to her about it.
notice OPs name???
i just wanted to stand up for op with a few points 1 i work at a pre school im an aide..being held back for development doesnt mean you are any different from others..it just means your not ready to move forward yet..the teachers have say whether you move up or not..smartest lil boy in in the young toddler room cant move up because he still wets the bed at nap time..havent perfected sharing yet...guess what...you dont go to kindergarten..its nothing personal..we all catch up at different times everyone developes differently..i "became a woman" at 12..my sisters?..not til they were 16..its life 2 i never really saw my birth certificate til i was 19 and that was because my mom finally handed over to me so i could apply for my marriage license..sure i had the chance to several times..as it was in the hands of my mother while signing up for school or getting a drivers license..but i had no interest in seeing it..i believe most people trust their parents with such information and it didnt concern me..i knew i was born..i can breathe and my mom said i was 14..15..16 on my birthday i believed her..as a teenager i coulda cared less about seeing it... 3 on those same lines if his/her parents wanted to hide the birth certificate its not hard to..mine was always in my mothers posession..she kept it in a lock box..that only she knew the combo to and she held it at the DMV. she signed me up for schools it was always in her hands...if this persons parents lied about this whats to say they didnt tell him/her that they lost her BC..it happens.. before attacking someone think it through..dont be so judgemental..i also find it hard to believe parents would do such a thing..but thats because i live a blessed life with honest trustworthy parents and an amazing family...not everyone is so lucky...and the world is cruel..as many of these comments demonstrate
My parents held me back in preschool too- now I have a master's degree and great career- don't let it upset you. English isn't even my first language.

Ouch. At least you're a year closer to being able to go out drinking.
Turnabout is fair play. I suggest slipping lots of drugs into their drinks so they fall into a coma and don't wake up for years and then tell them it was only a few days.
