This is America

Today, I found out that my rent is going up by $100. This is the third year in a row. I'm on SSI ($914/month) and it was $550 when I moved in before the pandemic. I'm also morbidly obese, schizophrenic, and my family doesn't respect me. FML

I'm sorry rent prices suck. In all honesty, the USA sucks for housing (and on my recent visit food isn't cheap either). Maybe look into sharing / roommates? I don't know if that would help bring it down but look for options and get help from advice bureaus if you can, even if it means moving somewhere cheaper. Big hugs and best of luck!

Being on disability limits how much money you are allowed to make or have saved on the side. If OP can't find a job making at least what they make from disability and then some, then it becomes bot worth the effort to work at all.

30 years ago people were concerned about urban sprawl and tried to do everything they could have stop it. Problem is people still need housing. Now it's expensive to build a house because of extensive regulations, taxes, licensing fees, a litany of other limitations. You combined those issues with the fallacy of rent control you get serious supply problems and housing prices skyrocket.

On the plus, you'll have less money for food and you'll be able to drop weight on the best diet plan ever: poverty. Maybe you'll lose enough to become a kind of obese with a less-horrifying adverb. Merrily obese?

$914 is still dirt cheap. Sounds like you need a plan to make more money.

For those of you who don't know, the pills you need to take when you are schizophrenic make you gain weight. They also have other fun side effects that must make it harder for OP to get a job.
