You should have given her the skinny, OP- Then, maybe she would have split her portions with you! If you'd weighted honesty a little more heavily, the problem could have been solved for both of you! Don't underestimate the generosity of the morbidly obese and starve yourself unnecessarily!

Been there, OP. Do you live near a college or university? Many have food programs open to the general community where you can purchase food at a steep discount. Good luck.

Sorry OP, that must be a terrible situation. I cannot fathom that despite having a job, someone might be so poor than they cannot even afford food. Is the situation that bad in the US?

Should have just said "Nah. I just can't afford to eat". Pass it off as a joke, but make sure to have a little tear about to trickle down your face. Never underestimate the power of the sad sac look.

heat and hot water are not unneccesary. as for cablr and phone chances are thry are still under contract and cannot br cancelled. op maybe have cut back as much as they can and still cant afford to eat.

Umm, that's pretty terrible.... Maybe she's already thin and needs food just to be healthy. When I got laid off, I couldn't really afford food, and I was underweight prior to losing my job. So, losing just 10 pounds made me really sick. Not eating isn't healthy, no matter what weight you are regardless.
