You wouldn't have to if you were slightly smarter than the lock. I deal with this daily. I've never once had to crawl under.
How do you unlock it from the outside?
I don't understand how any bathroom can have stalls that don't have external keying for unlocking. I've seen them and I can't help but think that whoever thought those were a good idea needs to be slapped.
14 You could stand on a stepladder and use a stick / coat hanger to slide the latch over without climbing over or under the wall.
Ahh elementary school
I don't know what public bathrooms in Canada are like, but here in the US 90% of the time the outside of the lock has a slot in it that you can fit a coin into to turn and unlock it from the outside. The other 10% of the time the stalls have a sliding bar lock and a magnet could in theory unlock those, though I don't travel around with a magnet so I haven't tested this theory...anyway, sucks you had to do that, hope the rest of your day was better!
I live in the US and I have never seen open-able locks like you're talking about. They sound like a great idea though.
Some bar style locks have indicators on them that can be used to unlock them.
Couldn't you open them with a screwdriver?
A lot of places have stalls that can't be opened from the outside.
This is one of the many reasons why I say the stalls should be extended to the floor.
Why didn't you just reach over it with a stick of some sort dummy?
What happened to kids these days?
People who complain that kids these days are spoiled are surprisingly the ones who are old enough to raise these kids.
Nothing happened to kids these days. They're kids. The real questions should be what are the parents doing while their kids are wandering, locking stalls, crawling on public bathroom floors.
Yeah this has definitely been happening since bathroom doors had locks.
Sounds like a load of fun, sorry OP, kids will be kids.

That sucks. You should've told the parent to take care of her child's actions.
Well hey, at least you don't have to sweep that part of the floor now
