Today, a very good friend of mine said he had a question to ask me. Jokingly, I threw my arms around his neck and said, "Oh yes, yes, a thousand times yes!" When I sat back down, I saw tears in his eyes, and he said, "You've made me the happiest man alive" as he pulled a small box out of his coat. FML

it's like the movie "just friends" gone wrong... I hope he finds a girl that won't stick him in the "friend zone" like you have.

Today, I was gonna ask the girl I love to marry her even before I could ask she said yes, I then found out she was kidding. FML

Only an imbecile would carry a ring around to give to a woman who doesn't even know he loves her. I can't think of any straightforward way to attempt to talk about dating a friend. But "I've wanted to be more than just friends for a long time now. I know I've avoided showing it, because I didn't want to mess things up. But I can't go another day without asking if you've been hiding feelings for me, or if in your heart I'm just a good friend?" sounds like about the only real way to get the job done.

What #206 said. She didn't complete the story: the box contained a butt plug and an air pump.

its your ******* fault....now you marry his ass if thats the way he feels for you...you cant act like a ******* prostitute .....

Might as well give him a chance and date him. If he's a really good friend and he really cares about you, then it could be a satisfying, healthy relationship. Sexual attraction could develop later. FML for the guy, though...

Uh, does anyone here think that her friend deserved it? Obviously (since she said platonic) they weren't in a romantic relationship, and obviously she was joking and wouldn't have known he was going to propose since they weren't even together. He shouldn't have assumed that she knew what he was going to do and actually ASKED his question so that she could have said no. He didn't need to jump to conclusions. F your lives.
