Today, after five months of not working, I have a check waiting for me at the office. Too bad the office is in another city. My gas tank is empty, and I have no money to put gas in my car. FML

You could ride the bus, get a ride over, bike (if it's not TOO far), ask them to mail it. A number of things.

Is this your final check after quitting or being terminated from a job? I don't know about Florida, but in most states ex-employees have the legal right to request that their last checks be mailed to them. Just ask them to do so, and find the relevant statute online if they put up a fight.

So OP there's this really cool new service they just came out with. Its called the mail. It's really fasinating. First they put your check in and envelope. Then they write your address on it and put this really neat sticker in the corner and put it in a magic box. A few days later a man in a white truck puts it into that little box on a post outside your house.

I feel your pain, OP. About being poor, that is. Best of luck.

Damn it! If only the government or some private companies could have invented some sort of delivery system, you could get them to send it to you for a nominal fee. And maybe that fee might be represented by some standard unit as long as your parcel was no more than 3 ounces and about 9"x4". Damn it again! If only there were policies in place forcing companies to use said fictional systems to send you your check! Life is TOUGH.
