Yikes, what did you say?
68, you don't need to be married to spend your life with someone. You just decide to spend your life together. The piece of paper just gives you the benefits. (Tax, insurance, etc)
I'm invested in you. Your love is my greatest asset. Also, tax breaks. PS - Sign this before I give you the ring.
72, exactly! Though I'd also add that those financial benefits will be effectively neutralized after paying out the divorce costs, so I always counsel couples to make sure they've got a stronger foundation than mere attraction.
And then he uttered the words, I have this prenuptial agreement. Plz sign :-)
I'd say #48 is correct. The fact (not opinion) is that people get married for various reasons, but ultimately, the impetus behind tying the proverbial knot doesn't have to be love. You don't need a legal document to verify your love. Marriage itself is a social and legal construct, and the reasons for getting hitched have also changed over the years. Think about it: if there was absolutely *no* social, financial, or legal benefit to getting married, how many people would be doing it?
