That is one hairy situation.
22- bangs?? Wtf. Fringe makes perfect sense. You do know what a fringe is, right? I know what bang means. And it doesn't relate to hair, that I can see.
Why does "fringe" make more sense than "bangs?" Both words have other meanings that don't relate to hair. Nothing about either word describes what hair on the forehead looks like. It's just a secondary definition no matter which word you use.
the fringe of say a table cloth hangs over the edge of the table, similarly a fringe of hair hangs over the edge, down the forehead.... Now tell me how "bangs" fits in a description of hair...
If that's how you think of it, "fringe" would make more sense to describe the back and side of the hair, that's the part that hangs down. "Bangs" fits simply because that's another definition of "bangs." How does "bang" fit the description of hitting something and making a noise? That's just the definition, it doesn't have to be based on anything. "Fringe" is only more reasonable to you because you're used to it.
In Australia, it's fringe.
41 "because it is" is the WORST argument ever :D
Dudes, bangs is when you cut your fringe such that it's straight. Fringe refers to just any hair hanging in front of your forehead.
"A fringe (or bangs in the United States, Canada and the Philippines) is a shaped cutting of the front part of the hair so that it is combed forward and hangs or curls over the forehead" Both mean the same thing, get over it.
Hm, let's see. We could squabble and speculate, or we could google "etymology of bangs" and find the answer in about three clicks. You're right; this is better. (If you don't agree, scroll up to 16 and read my reply.)
Lulz, I just realized 16 and 32 are by the same person. *facepalm*
Actually, dude, all hair that come from the apex of the head from eye to eye, is the fringe, no matter how it's cut. Bangs are used to describe the same area of hair, no matter how it's cut, in the USA.
a fringe of a tablecloth? WTF does that mean
ydi for spending an excess of money on a haircut. i hate when females do that. i'm a guy, i have long hair, the most a simple trim costs me is $2-$6 depending on how long it took and how much they cut off... and my hair looks just fine afterwards
Fringe is a term used by some other nationalities (British, for one). To me, 'bangs' sounds terrible.
agreed! bangs sound like something naughty....eg, GUY: "You have great bangs, what say us two get out of here ;) "
35- you should probably look up the word fringe. It is used in other contexts, but it doesn't have different meanings. Fringe DOES describe exactly what hair at the forehead looks like. Personally, I'd rather not have a bang (any meaning of) on my head. Anyway, I was just genuinely interested in how the term bang came to be used to describe hair.
42 that's exactly what I was trying to show :) I agree a bang on the head is what people get when they hit their head, doesn't sound very pretty does it :D
You should be happy to learn that you have a high forehead and now should always have a hair style that covers it or diminishes it. Now you may look good enough to dump your BF if you want!
men are idiots and don't always have the tact some women have. I've been married 3+ years now and it took me til recently to realize this. get over it and love him for the verbal retard with the sensitivity of a rock that he is
Thanks for that wonderful comment that completely reeked of sexism. Not all men are stupid. And not all men have a hard time getting their point across. Stop making generalizations. I'm sure you'd be pissed if I said that all women were stupid, irrational, emotional creatures, huh?
#51 Yikes. Like #70 said, not all men are idiots. That's a gross generalization. And, as a woman, I can say that not all women think that men are idiots.
then since he knows what he said is wrong, kick him to the curb for being an asshole.

maybe you have a wide forehead? I dunno I know some people who look weird without bangs :)
It's sort of a compliment? lol
