Today, after getting an expensive haircut, I showed it to my boyfriend. Instead of saying, "Wow, those bangs look great on you" he said, "Wow, you look really good when you don't show your forehead." FML

Today, I was at the hairdresser's getting a trim. The lady doing my hair commented on how beautiful and luscious my hair was, which made me feel really good. I later overheard her telling her colleague that hair as nice as mine was wasted on someone with a face like mine. FML

Men don't have the same perspective of the world as women have. it's your opportunity to educate your partner on how you like to be communicated with. He deserves credit for being in the sane ball park. I do agree that he needs to understand the difference between a back-handed complement and a complement, which is why yls!

Its not that "men don't have the same perspective of the world as women do." (which honestly has absolutely nothing with what this FML is about) It's just than men, in fact, people in general are not mind readers, and don't know exactly what people want to hear. This sort of thing happens all the time, it's not always in a boyfriend/girlfriend, wife/husband situation, and it's not always a male oriented thing.
