Today, after having saved up my money for months to buy my college-bound son the car of his dreams, I got a phone call telling me it had been totalled during a drag-race. I only gave him the keys two days ago. FML

I seriously hope you knocked his dumb ass out. And that you had insurance.

Your son is an idiot. My brother and I got the use of my mothers old car (V6 '04 Toyota Camry) (she got a new company car so she doesn't need this one anymore) so we could get places. I live three hours away from home at university so its an incentive to come home. My brother hasn't got his licence yet so I'm now the primary driver. It's not ours as technically it's still hers, and I treat it better than anything I've ever owned. Maybe if you didn't get him his dream car, which he obviously doesn't understand the value of, you wouldn't be in this predicament.

Kids and fast cars are not a great combination - I'm just happy your son didn't total himself! He's an ungrateful, immature moron, but at least he's alive and could easily not have been. If you get some money from the insurance, buy him an old banger and keep the rest until he's a little more responsible.

Tell him he's buying his own shit from now on

That's what you get for getting a young driver a new car. Young people aren't the smartest. And that's coming from a teenager herself. I will NOT be getting a new car until I believe I am responsible and have been driving long enough to handle it.

Next time make him pay for stuff and he might appreciate it.

Parents that buy their children cars are teaching them nothing but irresponsibility.

Damn you sound like a decent dad FYL and FHL for being so reckless

Just curious, what car was it. Also why did you buy him the car of his dreams, that's not exactly your job

Kids don't appriciate things like cars unless they've at least contributed. With the next one make them save half and give them the rest for their birthday.
