Today, after listening to a group of my friends ranting on about how much they love babies and can't wait to have them, I got to witness their looks of horror and disgust as I expressed my desire to not have children. I also happened to be the only girl there. FML

There's nothing wrong with not wanting to have kids. A lot of people have children who should never have been parents.

I really do not get why NOT wanting to have kids is so earth shattering. Being childfree is a good thing.

Everyone treats females who don't want children like they're the devil or something. I don't want kids either, and I constantly have people (mostly men) try to talk me into believing I will want kids one day. I'm 22 and made up my mind years ago. It's just not in my plan, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Not wanting kids I can get. It's just not for some people, and not everyone should be a parent or is cut out for it. One thing I'll never understand though, is how some people have such a strong disgust or hate of children. When people say things like that, it legitimately annoys me. Maybe OP has that same attitude towards children, and maybe that attitude was made obvious in the way she spoke of children. You never know.

You have to admit, pre-potty-trained children are pretty disgusting. And I have sound sensitivities that even the quietest children's voices aggravate. Living with that 24/7 would be the ninth circle of hell for me. I get that young children can't help those facts, but I still find them disgusting and loathsome all the same.

I have a hard time being around too much noise sometimes, it sets off my anxiety. It has gotten to the point any time I am around children I start having anxiety attacks due to how much noise there is and how often the noise follows me around. It's a pretty legit reason to dislike kids. There are stories behind why everyone dislikes kids and not everyone needs to like them, as long as the people disliking kids don't have them it doesn't matter that not everyone likes them.

I had to go with YDI but not because I think she should feel bad for not wanting kids. I chose YDI because the OP thought it was relevant she was in a group of guys. This caused me to interpret the OP's message as she's someone who holds men and women to different standards when it comes to the desire to have children. Basically, she's just as guilty of stereotyping as the guys.

Eh, I found it kind of interesting that she mentioned that simply because I usually hear most guys talk about how they want kids, whereas women will talk about how they want babies. That's not universal, of course, but I'm probably not the only one who hasn't heard many of my guy friends gush about how adorable babies are.

I'm glad to see the comments to be so positive! If being childfree is what you really want OP stick to it. Many people don't understand that it's ok not to want to procreate. Your body, your rules.

How many arguments I've had about this conversation when I express desire to remain childfree. As if I am expecting people to not have children just because I do not want them. It is just ridiculous.
