Today, after my annoying neighbor who used to spend hours playing the cello in the apartment below me finally moved out, I found out that I have a new musical neighbor moving in. This fellow plays the bagpipes. FML

Being Scottish, I do sympathise. Personally I don't really enjoy the sound of bagpipes, that's probably a bit unpatriotic but for some reason that noise sets me on edge. I guess earplugs is the solution or plug your iPod in for a while.

Okay, I do have to make a comment about all those people above who say "you deserve it for not liking the sound of a cello". I also lived in an apartment complex with someone next door who played the cello, and while the instrument itself is fine, a) if they're not very good at playing it, it can sound HORRIBLE, like with any other instrument, b) when you live next door, oftentimes you don't really even hear music. You just hear this low, base-like droning through the walls. It does NOT sound good at all, and I say that as a person that also very much enjoys cello music.

112: You're right- I play the cello, and for my family, at least, it's not always a joy, because when you're practicing, you're not playing every song perfectly so that your neighbors can enjoy it- you play measures over, and over, and over again, and I practice about 3-4 hours a day most days. I also live in an apartment complex, so I try playing softly or with a mute when it's not absolutely necessary to play at normal volume. But it is pleasant when you can actually play the song, except by then, your family and neighbors probably have already memorized it...

Dude cellos aren't that bad. And ask the guy who plays bagpipes not to play so loud or as often. Or better yet, have him play somewhere else.

The cello is a beautiful sounding instrument! Unlike the bagpipes. U should stuff the mouth piece with some shit. Thatll make them quit!

Unless he's playing at odd hours of the night, you have no right to complain. Musicians can't just practice for an hour and be done with it; serious musicians practice sometimes up to 8 hours a day. I understand how maybe that would drive you crazy, but as you didn't imply that he plays that many hours at all here, I say YDI big time. Suck it up and do something productive with your own time too.

I play the cello! Its a beautiful instrument, but I try not to be a nuisance when I practice.
