Today, after opening a letter from the VA, I found out that I have to pay back all the money I earned last year in the Army. I just spent $500 on Christmas presents. Payments start in January. FML

Why on earth do you have to pay it back? Appeal it to whatever military court handles issues like that, and if you can't, take it higher to a tribunal!

Why would you have to pay back all the money you earned?

That's bullshit! How can they make you pay that back?!! You earned it!! Trump ain't even pres yet and the ****** bullshit starts!

It has absolutely nothing to do with who is the president. Educate your self before making ridiculous comments. You have no idea what your talking about.

If you were overpaid or if you collected Service-Connected Disability, you have to pay it back. Fair warning, they will happily send you to collection if you don't pay on time. They did the same to me and wrecked my perfect credit score.

Hey OP...don't let these uneducated fools make you feel bad on here. First,,thank you for your service to our country.and second.. Does this have anything to do with the "unauthorized recruit/resign bonus crap I been reading about lately? If it IS I am so sorry. but if not do as others have stated and contact your nearest VA hospital IMMEDIATELY Sawyer Armored Cav Fort Knox(97-99)

First off you more than likely do owe that money back. It's either for drill pay, returning to active duty, or severance/separation pay. Per law you cannot receive both va benefits and military pay. This is not a scam. And don't waste your time going to a va hospital bc they can't help you. You will either need to go to the nearest va regional office or call 1-800-827-1000 for more of an explanation. I promise you as a Veteran myself and a va employee I can guarantee the information I am providing is 100% accurate.

I am not saying this applies to the OP at all, I just noticed a lot of people questioning this post. As a 10 year military veteran I can say that if you joined the military and signed a contract for (8) years.... yet you either were removed from, or removed yourself from, military service due to failure to acclimate or because you were dishonorably discharged... you will owe back any and all "bonuses" and could also owe any "monetary compensations" you earned within your first year (bonuses are a for sure thing)... the VA will usually only take back EVERYTHING if you only went through boot camp and your MOS/AIT school because you never actually saw boots on ground. The military puts out a lot of money to get military personnel trained and up to speed on the MOS that was chosen. If you do something to show you don't deserve to use the uniform or don't fit the expectations of the military, you will be processed out accordingly and the VA will come after you for any level of compensation required.

Go to your VA and show them. It's seriously messed up how they treat our veterans and current military. I know because I'm the daughter of a Vietnam veteran. I hope you get this resolved OP and thank you for your service!
