bblubblerfisch tells us more.
Hey all. OP here. First of all I'm glad this was posted, because when the first blotch came off, I was thinking 'Oh NO! This is so FML!' and yeah - here it is :) And then - to clear up a few things: 1. This is not my first language and 'masking tape' was just what google translater told me 'Malerkrepp' means in English. Anyways: it was the right kind of tape, we used it on the whole house and it worked everywhere else except this particular wall because 2. there was a strange kind of 'wax' paint under a whole lot of other layers that apparently was not fit to be re-painted. Ours is a very old house and we didn't know the former owners used this. But I'm a lucky one. My fiancé filled the gaps in with painter's filling yesterday and after repainting all of it tonight I hope we will truly be done. Finally. And 3. I certainly didn't leave the tape on for half a year! This is just the amount of time we have been working on the whole project. #70 : I loved your comment! Thank you, this really helped and it's exactly what we are doing. Have a nice day everyone! :)

Looks like you're painted into a corner financially. Maybe if you could cut through some of the red tape you'll have some spare money for repairs.
Damn were you using gorilla tape? You know what they say, if at first you don't succeed hire professionals.
When someone asks about the spots you can alway just say you were trying out some modern art.
He could be the next starving artist, assuming he isn't rich. I mean the odds are he's not loaded, because if he were, he would have hired a professional.
Painters tape, except when being used on top of baseboards to protect from roller spatter and drips is a sign of a painter who should not be painting. Get a good cut brush and then learn how to use it. Also keep a damp rag in your pocket for those little oopsies. I know I painted professionaly for 5+ years on million dollar + homes in Chicago. Also painters tape should only be left on for as long as you need it to protect from drips and roller spatter. Do not let painters tape sit for days on end.
I'm proud to say, I painted my entire house without using painter's tape. I had great brushes, the right amount of paint applied and a steady hand to do all the edging. Taping everything up first would have been more work than just taking my time and making sure I paid attention to what I was doing. (:
I rarely use tape when painting. I have a steady brush hand. ;) I was astonished when I went to help my brother paint his apartment and he had it taped off like a crime scene. He must have spent at least $30 in tape. Crazy.
Thanks for the tips! My family is in the process of redoing our living room, and we don't want a repeat of this FML in our home.
The same thing happened to me last time I repainted my room. Sorry OP, hope it didn't do much damage.
just leave it. tell your guests it's the newest look in Europe. how could they know?
well darn. I feel foolish
That's why they make painter's tape.
Honestly you can leave tape up after you paint or anything for to long it's meant to come off when it is drying. I would say semi dry is what I do. I just know by looking I've been doing this stuff forever. That goes for anything that can dry on or over paint! Also if you don't mind tedious work exacto knife the sides. Good look. (blue or green wall tape is your best for any in home work! :)
Obviously haven't heard of concepts such as gentle or careful :-)
