Where there is blame, there is a claim.
gee, you think it'd be able sense someone was there! sorry OP. hope you're okay!
...and this is why you should wear shoes...
Seeing that the OP is from California, he/she was probably wearing open toed shoes like flip-flops.
Do you not have arms OP?
Did you go to the building manager and tell him what happened? And did you take pictures of your injury? Because you can sue over that. But if you didn't start the process before you left the building then it's too late.
Im not huge fan of big lawsuits.. just wanna throw it out there. Sure, sue for the cost of the medical treatment and the drugs.. perhaps a little extra for the time wasted with the doc... but you dont deserve to be a millionaire... Not that you would do that OP :)
The doors close on the stairways to stop smoke and fire spreading easily through a building - otherwise its an open passage.
We had doors that would close automatically whenever the fire alarm would go off at the hospital where I worked. They would divide the unit and also close off stairs.

Ouch! There isn't a pretty picture in my head from this. But feel better OP!!!
If op was on a stairwell why would the doors close? Don't you use the stairs in a fire?
