Electromagnets that hold the door open de-energize and the door closes by it's own weight. Fire doors never slam shut unless something is wrong with the gas cylinder helping them close gently. Usually before this happens the fire bells begin to ring and strobe lights flash. OP must be a special one to stand in the door's path while this is happening. YDI
Would you like that shitty-day burger with a side of painful-fries;(
Fire doors ease themselves shut with gas cylinders due to their excessive weight. A lawsuit would get you laughed right out of court, it would be like suing for being ran over by a handicap door! You're a moron OP, you are lucky you didn't loose your toe!
You assume this one followed that rule. Like humans, technology isn't perfect. We can't assume it did or did not do what it's supposed to, but I'd figure if it ripped a toe nail off then the OP wasn't wearing any kind of footwear. So they were probably in an apartment complex of some sort. So an imperfect fire-door would make sense. (More landlords like to skip maintenance than people want to admit.)
45-I tip my hat to you, your rebuttal was very well written! Though I stand by my original position, it's refreshing to see another adult type within these threads
Says the guy who called the OP a moron. That's very adult of you.
I was wondering why your toenail was exposed in the first place... it's October and where I live everyone is in boots. But OP is from Cali. makes sense.
Wow that must have sucked ass! Hope you feel better soon!!
Wait...if a fire alarm goes off, then the escape route is closed? That doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
To prevent the spread of fire. That's why they call them fire doors, idiot.
It's like those doors in Dredd!

Ouch! There isn't a pretty picture in my head from this. But feel better OP!!!
If op was on a stairwell why would the doors close? Don't you use the stairs in a fire?
