show her you actually got something, n say youre going to return it n get her something else. like soft fluffy towels
You and your dad don't talk? I always talk to my dad and other family members about what we r going to get mom.
If it's something personally significant for your mom, I'm sure she'd be very happy to have a husband(?) and daughter that know and care about her interests. As long as it's not some novelty junk, I think this should be taken as a pleasant, sweet surprise.
I think your mom would be happy seeing you and dad care about her likings. If your dad stole the idea...so I would say that sucks.
Time to check the dates on the receipts
Shows you and your dad know your mom well. Next time maybe discuss what you two should buy
If I'm ever getting a present for a parent I almost always ask the other what they are getting so the gift from me is different. Unfortunate coincidence but hey at least if your dad got her the same thing you know your gift idea was probably right on.
now she can return one ( or both ) and get what she wants.
Did you call the cops?

Hopefully she appreciates the thought behind the gift! :)
If it's something that can run out, then it's fine. If it's something that is static, then it becomes slightly redundant. So yes it does matter
