Today, at work, due to a mix up, I had to call an answering service. I am also from an answering service. We got the problem fixed but I couldn't hang up due to company policy. She couldn't hang up either. We both had to get our supervisors for permission to hang up. FML

I don't see how OP would have been seen as in competent. As I see it, that was situation of which OP didnt know the correct procedure, and so, took a logical course of action by asking her boss, (The policy probably didn't assume at any point would the answering service be in the role of client, so didn't have a procedure for such).

Speaking as an answering service supervisor, this amuses me greatly. There are so many strange rules.
