Today, at work, due to a mix up, I had to call an answering service. I am also from an answering service. We got the problem fixed but I couldn't hang up due to company policy. She couldn't hang up either. We both had to get our supervisors for permission to hang up. FML

"You hang up" "No, you hang up" "No, you hang up first!"

That's awesome. Did you at least have a pleasant conversation while you waited?

You know what's the single most irritating thing about answering services? Calling and paying to be put on hold forever in the hope of maybe perhaps possibly speaking to an actual person while knowing that the rare few actual people working there for peanuts are all tied up with BS protocols.

this may be an fml but I personaly think its kind of hilarious

ha that's hilarious how long did it take?

So what's an answering service? Because it sounds like it's a telemarketer, in which case neither of you is going to make a sale so why stay on the phone?

Most answering services answer phones for businesses after hours and dispatch them as needed. A lot of 24/7 businesses have one. Doctors, heating and cooling companies, funeral homes. I tend to refer to myself as more of an outsourced secretary, because if they do their job right, you don't know you're talking to a service. We never call people outside of the people we have to to clear calls and there's no sales whatsoever. Unless it's a crappy answering service. Those do exist. And they are a pain in the ass.

That is effed up in a cool way lmao

... And I thought bureaucracy in Poland was the worst.

Sounds like a good idea for a game show. A bunch of people talk on the phone and the last to hang up wins a million dollars. We'll call it Cash Phone. It will be hosted by the "Can you hear me now?" guy.

Sounds like an easy afternoon to me. "But, boss! I can't hang up. I have to stay on the line." Meanwhile, you're doodling and designing your dream house on the scratch pad.

If they both hang up at the same time then who would get the blame?
