Today, I admitted to my parents that I'm a pathological liar and I would like to go get help. They didn't believe me, and told me stop making stuff up. FML

So they don't believe the fact that you're a pathological liar... Which means they think it's a lie... Which gives them evidence that you ARE a pathological liar. This like lie-ception!

We'd like to believe you, OP, but we all know what an incredible liar you are. Wait, what?

Keep telling them completely ridiculous but obviously untrue lies until they finally believe you and realise you have a problem :)

It's probably that you've been so skillful at lying to them in the past, that when you finally tell the truth, they think you are lying. This is a real Catch-22.

#30, it's The Boy Who Cried Wolf which is a different story than "Peter & The Wolf." Don't worry, I have a hard time telling Chicken Little from The Little Red Hen.

Woooow. But good for you OP! You've made the first step to recovery - admitting you have a problem and asking for help. That's usually the hardest part.

I'm a pathological liar as well... Everyone at worked is convinced my powdered foundation is actually cocaine made to blend with my skin. I bought my boyfriend on ebay. I was arrested on christmas and the cop that booked me is a male stripper that I knew all too well. I don't feel bad for lying because I think you have to be a special kind of stupid to believe this crap

its great that you are seeking help, nevermind your parents and try get some help with that you are on the right way :D

Can't you look up a psychologist/psychiatrist or therapist of some sort by yourself? You don't need your parents permission (at least, not in my country) But if it's a money issue.. Well, maybe the therapist can convince your parents it's good for you to have some sort of therapy/help ? :p

I hope things get better OP, do you have any walk-in clinics? They'll take anyone that needs help, no parental consent needed and they usually only take 30 minutes out of your day or so, it's also free; if you don't have any of those near you, I hope for the best!!

I wish I could help more, but It sounds like you are in high school. If so, go to a guidance counselor. They could help you convince your parents, or you could talk to the guidance counselor.

Correction:It's free in Canada where they have healthcare for all.....

@91 Its only free if your insurance covers it. If OP is in high school he most likely falls under his parents' insurance. So if his parents won't take him he pays out of pocket. Also healthcare isn't free for us. The cost is incorporated into our taxes, and like I said if you don't have insurance its all out of pocket.

I was a severe pathological liar when I was a teenager, stopped after I learned my lesson the hard way. Be careful! Just bypass people who won't help and go see a doctor :) Get support any way you can.

Just like you're probably making this whole thing up.
