Today, I arrived at work at 8, and business was abnormally slow, but we assumed it would pick up. Few hours later, we had not had a single customer. As I walk out of the restaurant, I realize the open sign has been off all day. FML

Today, I came in to work early at a restaurant to help out. I stocked, baked pies for the next day, cleaned and set over 50 tables, and vacuumed the entire two stories. When I went to send an order for the first customer of mine, I realized I hadn't even clocked on. Four and half hours of work wasted. FML

Was the cashier out running "those errands"?

Not a single customer?? I bet your restaurant sucks. Usually people will try their luck even if the "open" sign is not on during normal business hour.. And don't you have regular customers??

How's this an FML???? You got a free day at work....stop your whining, do something worse with your life, then come back, and make me laugh.

Your customers actually pay attention to whether the sign says Open or Closed? You have no idea how lucky you are.

We usually get more customers when we forget to turn the open sign on. I don't even know why we have one actually.

I remember watching an episode of Spongebob just like this. Spongebob annoyed the hell out of Squidward and near the end of the day they forgot to change the sign to Open.

How is this bad? You got a free day at work where you still got paid but didn't have to do anything. When I was a waitress, the best times at work were the graveyard shift when no one would come in and we'd just have fun. Stop whining

They may still get bitched out/written up by their boss/the owner of the restaurant, because the owner would indeed lose a remarkable amount of money by the restaurant being closed for an entire day, plus maybe a few customers are going to be pissed off. Oh, and in case OP's employer pays them next to nothing and the tips are supposed to be their salary, it probably *would* hurt her to lose a shift's worth of tips. So I do see the FML here.

why does this constitute an FML? you got paid to do not a damn thing! didn't have to deal with douchebag customers, or serving them, or getting angry when they don't tip you. this is a win.

this is probably fake, people would still come in, they'd probably see lights on inside and stuff. i don't believe that not ONE person would come in. and how is this an FML? you didn't have to do anything !

As somebody who used to own a retail store, people pay no attention to those signs.
