feetfreak tells us more.
Hi. This is the original poster. 1. I was not trying to boss him around or be a tattle-tale. We work at a warehouse store and his job requires him to regularly perform heavy lifting INDOORS and heavy lifting OUTDOORS when he has to help customers carry things to their cars and load them. The guy was relatively new, so I was concerned about his safety. I thought maybe he just left the house in a hurry and forgot that he was wearing sandals. I've accidentally almost left the house in my running sneakers only to quickly run back and change. 2. I wasn't trying to be nosy, I was just genuinely curious and was not going to report him or try and get him in trouble. I am not a narc. We were making what I thought was polite small talk. Guess I was wrong. 3. To the people telling me to mind my own business: if you had toilet paper stuck to your shoe or broccoli in your teeth, wouldn't you want someone to tell you so you don't walk around all day looking like a fool?

or you could've left it alone and not said anything due to the fact that you shouldn't care what a coworker thinks nor have a right to say anything because you're not a boss.
YDI. Stop being a tattletale. It is your boss's responsibility to deal with things like that.
First off, where in the FML does Op say that Op was going to tattle tale on the co worker? It only says Op asked the co worker about it. Second, I'm pretty certain if Op was a tattle tale, this FML wouldn't have happened because Op's first stop would have been the higher ups rather than the co worker, in which case Op wouldn't have been summoned to the office only to be told what the co worker complained. Third, rules in the workplace are rules - and for a reason. If you're not supposed to wear open toed shoes, it's because someone somewhere down the line broke toes while on the job because they were stupid enough to wear open toed shoes. There is a reason certain rules are put in place, so that the company isn't responsible for certain types of injuries and or lawsuits. So honestly, Op *should* have taken the inquiry straight to the higher ups in the company to let them deal with it.
if the boss has to step in with disciplinary action then something wrong. good employees keeping these sort of problems from having to reach the management level. OP couldn't write them up but it's still everyone's job in any circumstance to make sure things are as they should be. and OP could have been sparing that coworker from getting in trouble by making them aware it was a problem they needed to correct.
It would help to have context. Maybe it was a safety issue and then the comment was fair. But I work in an office with business casual dress. Flip lops not allowed but yeah occasionally we are lazy and break the rule. My manager doesn't even care, so it's annoying if a coworker makes a big deal.

Considering I worked in a place where a coworker dropped a 30 lb. box next to a woman's wearing sandals feet and asked if she felt she would be as lucky next time and how you didn't actually tell on him or get bitchy (as far as I can tell) I'll give you a FYL.
Your grammar gave me cancer.
I don't want to sound like a douchenozzle, but asking someone why they're doing something is disrespectful. I'm sorry, but that's karma, sweetheart!
Whaaa? Asking someone why they're doing something isn't disrespectful by default. Honestly, OP should have just gone straight to their boss if it was a safety issue (which is usually why there's a footwear stipulation in dresscodes), rather than get directly confrontational.
Nope, it's called proper work ethics, gtfo.
@96: You seriously don't know what the word 'disrespectful' means, do you...
I think you need a dictionary for your birthday so you can figure out what certain words actually mean, dumbass
Unfortunately, you do sound like a douchenozzle
I hope he got in trouble for wearing sandals at least
Hahaha! Some people.. Jeez

I finally understand what OP means. Thank you, I thought it was just 'op', a name the fml community made up to call the author of the fml.
I dropped a rotor for an F-350 on my foot once, and I was wearing running shoes. Your coworker is an idiot, and you're a great person for looking out for him.
It's always best to say something when someone is doing something that is unsafe. Worst case scenario if you say something: they get mad. Worst case scenario if you don't say something: they get seriously injured or even killed depending on how hazardous their behavior is and then you have to live with that on your conscience for the rest of your life. You did the right thing, OP.
way to look out. ignore the idiots.
OP, You did the rightbthibg, as ur was new and maybe forgot. He just decided to be an asshole about it instead of either, A. telling you to go to hell and ignoring you or B. thanking you for looking out for him and leaving it at that. As for the trolls on here who are calling you a narc and tattle tale, YSS THEY ARE THE PEOPLE WHO WILL LET OTHERS WALK AROUND WITH TP STUCK TO THEIR SHOE OR FOOD IN THEIR TEETH. Unfortunately, we live in a world that's going to hell.....
As a nurse, I am thankful for coworkers like you. Previously, after working multiple 12 hour shifts, I have shown up to work wearing comfy flats, all together forgetting to change. Just a simple remark from a colleague can be a welcomed reminder to go back to the locker room. I don't want to have blood or other bodily fluids on my feet, nor do I want to increase my risk of exposure to needles, glass, and other potential hazards. So sorry your colleague had such a bad attitude OP.
If something had fallen on his feet, he'd have been in serious trouble. There's a reason for policies like this, so good job front to help him out, it's unfortunate that he didn't appreciate it.
So, did you get fired? or was it all cleared up? sorry now im being nosey lol

Hopefully your boss believed you over that jackass coworker of your's.
Don't worry about the idiots. You were perfectly polite and within your rights to look out for another person's safety. Please update with how it turned out with your boss and your douche co-worker!
