Today, I asked my boss for a few days off next week, because my grandmother passed away yesterday and I'll need to travel to attend the funeral. His response: "She's dead, you're not. You want time off, then quit." FML

Sorry for your loss, OP. And an insensitive boss like that is a horrible one. I wish you and your family the best.

Don't quit. Just leave. Fires you? Welfare. Plus you have an epic sobstory that any decent employer would understand.

Here in CA USA that's a no no that your boss did that. You might want to find out if you have any recourse for this due to you are supposed to get 3 days Berevement from losing a family member. Good luck to yiou

sorry for your loss, but your boss doesn't have to give it you the days off unless its immediate family aka mom, dad, siblings, spouse, and children. So if you complain and are mad that he didn't let you go, then you will get that from a lot of other employers as well.

Funny. I bet if it was his grandmother he'd be singing a different tune.

It's a law to get a cupple days off if some one passed away

I hope you got to go to the funeral and not have to quit.

Tell your boss to shove a stick up his ass and find a better place of employment

You should have walked out right then and there. Putting up with an asshole like that isn't worth Bill Gate's salary.
