Today, I asked my boss for a few days off next week, because my grandmother passed away yesterday and I'll need to travel to attend the funeral. His response: "She's dead, you're not. You want time off, then quit." FML

Sorry for your loss, OP. And an insensitive boss like that is a horrible one. I wish you and your family the best.

Holy shit what an asshole. I'm sorry. Maybe you should quit maybe it's the opportunity to find something better and a better boss. Good luck. And don't worry she's in a much better place.

Holy ****. What an asshole. You should quit, and then report his selfish ass to HR.

Sorry for your loss. I hope he changes his mind and gives you time off. If possible, email him and ask again. You may then have his feelings in writing and can take it further if you wish.

Federal law says he had to give you grievance leave for immediate family (grandparents included). Talk to Human Resources, or file a complaint with the authorities.
