Where the hell do you live?? It's the same thing...

that's just stupid, if you are born here, YOU are not "African-American", you're american. you'd be considered american with african ancestry. people these days want to label everything.

one time I was politically corrected to say "African american Friday" instead of "black Friday"...people are really ignorant to realize what racism means..

Oh god I hate people. The stupidity... it hurts...

Well you deserved it, because you don't even let us call you black without being called a racist, even though you call us white and no one says a thing.

I don't know if it's just me but this comment seems fairly racist due to the fact that you're implying OP calls others racist when they call him/her black because he/she is black. Wouldn't that be racist in your part by assuming because OP is black that they accuse white people of being racist for using the word black to describe someone? I hope someone else understand what point I'm trying to make and I hope I'm not the only one thinking this comment seems racist. I probably didn't make much sense but in my little mind it does haha

#70, I have no idea where you're from, but I know many black people and they are fine with me calling them black. They have never screamed that I was being racist towards them. It's pointless to call them African American since their families are of Haitian and Jamaican decent.

I hate having to always call black people "African American" even though they don't really come from Africa, only their ancestors do. It's like my great great great great great grandma came from Italy does that mean you call me "Italian American"?

LOL....I don't think racist means what some people THINK it means. SMH It's going to get to the point where everyone will be so busy censoring themselves that they will just stop communicating all together.

In Australia, all the other countries think we're somehow racist because 300 years ago some of our ancestors came here and started a colony. Which is the exact same as any other English speaking country which is unfair.

Canada, America, and Australia share a very similar history in terms of colonisation because they're some of the last places that were colonised and kept that way. The way our ancestors treated the Aboriginal people until as recently as the 1980s was disgusting, and how many are still marginalised continues to be a major problem. Its not just Australia, so try not to worry too much. That being said, its important to keep these issues in mind and to examine what does need to be done.

I have a black friend who refuses to say African American because his ancestors are from Jamaica

No... You're brown, literally.

kingdomgirl94 29

Brown is usually used to refer to people from India and certain areas of the middle-east.

You mean African-American haha

It shouldn't even matter that you're black. We all need to get past societal norms and set racism aside.
