He's "modern" enough to admit she needs some level of formal education. An old-timey chauvinist would have said, "All a girl needs is her weiner warmer. Keep that thing clean and ready for his use, and you'll have everything you want!"
what does him being at his wifes house have to do with it ?
Because thread jacking is incredibly annoying.
It's possible that your Dad is obligated to continue paying for your college education even though he is re-married and doesn't want to. Check with your mother and see what the divorce agreement includes regarding child support.
And your point is ........ ??
just saying, women are naturally inclined to be mothers, and thus care for children. on the other hand, men are naturally inclined to be in power and provide. therefore, the "sexist" roles are entirely natural. I have no problem with women getting an education but don't diss your dad. he's more right then wrong.
Wanting to "nurture and care" and "have power and provide" aren't mutually exclusive, nor assigned to any one gender. You are more wrong than right.
what 1 said IS related.

Your dad is an idiot. FYL. But grow up and learn to take financial responsibility for yourself.
How is any of this indicative of her not taking financial responsibility? I paid for my degree myself, but my parents still sat down with me and helped me figure out what I was doing with loans, etc. Asking someone experienced to help you is one of the smartest and most responsible things you can do.
