Today, I came home from a four month stay in Africa, where I managed to avoid suffering any serious illness. Some hours after my first meal back at home, I got food poisoning. FML

When Africa's food is better prepared than ours.

Bitch please, I've lived in Africa the majority of my whole life without catching major illnesses, contrary to popular belief, there are places on this continent that are clean and safe -.-

maybe you were just extra careful about what you ate there, and didn't think too much when back..and ended up eating something dodgy! poor you, get well soon!

Well at least the bright side is that you could receive really nice medical attention here...man that's unfortunate though :/ when life gives you lemons...

Heh, they say there's no place like home.

How the hell did you manage to not get food poisoning during your four month stay?

Sorry OP, this is normal. I went for a month with a large group, came back, and everyone had food poisoning or bad stomachs for at least a couple of days :(

Might not be poorly prepared food. People with very different diets have widely varying combinations of microbial species living in their digestive tracts, so when you switch diets radically, your body may not be able to handle the new food like it used to. Maybe your American microbes could digest African food, but your digestive ecosystem changed over your stay, and it wasn't so smooth transitioning back.

No surprise there, 'merica sucks, ya heard?
