Today, I came home from a four month stay in Africa, where I managed to avoid suffering any serious illness. Some hours after my first meal back at home, I got food poisoning. FML

When Africa's food is better prepared than ours.

Bitch please, I've lived in Africa the majority of my whole life without catching major illnesses, contrary to popular belief, there are places on this continent that are clean and safe -.-

I spent six weeks in Paris and in the south of France in 2006, it was super SUPER hot (like 48 degrees Celsius hot, it was in the midst of an unbelievable heat wave), super sunny, etc. Spent a lot of time on the beach down south. I'm a VERY fair-skinned, auburn-haired, freckly kind of lady. I didn't get a sunburn at all. Then, the day after I got back to Canada, my friends roped me into playing in a charity soccer tournament, I forgot my sunblock, and in one day I got the worst sunburn I've ever had.

I dont think it was because of the food, this has happened to me before. When you travel to some other country with different food you body accustoms to it, when you came back it was like eating strange food to your stomach so it didn't agree with it. Unless your doctor said it was food poisoning haha

I have a big trip to India coming up soon and that frightens me. My friends family makes such good Indian food - which I have tasted only in small potions - and I'm a little nervous my stomach won't be able to handle all the spicy goodness once I'm there. I'm trying to eat indian food at least once a week so I can handle it when I get there - but Jesus that shit is spicy sometimes.

India is as varied in cuisine as they are linguistically (go a few towns away and they're already speaking a different dialect if not an entirely different language). Unless your friend's family comes from the exact part of India you're moving to, then the food they eat is probably not the same and your "preparations" are for naught.

My friend speaks Telegu and is from Andhra Pradesh. Which is where I'll be staying. So I appreciate your comment but I'm aware of how varied things can be in India. A majority of my meals will be prepared within my friend's family - so the food I've eaten already was made by my friend's mom. So no, my preparations are not in vain. :)
