The boss and coworkers would have to take me at my word. I'd probably have the prayer card with my friend's name on it and the day he/she died, but I wouldn't justify anyone questioning me about the death of a close friend by showing it to them as proof. No one but a scumbag would lie about a death of a family member or friend to get out of work. And if they think you're a scumbag or really press the issue, start searching for a new job on Careerbuilder.
Sorry for your loss. It sounds like your boss and cow-orkers are the kind of people who would make up a funeral to go to the beach and are projecting that on you. When the boss starts complaining that 40% of your sick days are on Monday or Friday, then run don't walk out of there.
Unless you were wearing shorts and a t-shirt to your friends funeral I don't see how you could have tanned, didnt you wear a suit?
OP is female, she probably wore a dress, so arms, maybe some legs and a bit of chest may have gotten tan.
Your boss has trust issues.. Who cares what they think you know its true and that is all that matters.Sorry for your loss.
I tan very easy to!!
Sorry for your loss, OP. You should have kept the funeral program or something, to prove your story and make them look like douchebags. I had to do that once at school, to make sure that my absence was totally excused and all.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Your boss's a douche bag.
You should have taken a cool "vacation" pic of yourself standing next to the casket.
