Don't feel too bad OP, you're not alone. That has happened to me before. A manager at a fast food restaurant told me that I was going to be promoted to shift leader and that the owner and GM had been talking about it, but when I asked the Assistant GM she had no idea what I was talking about. Bosses like that suck. So I asked to be transferred from her store. She was a bitch.
I would say something like this. "Oh I was suppose to show up for work today? I thought you were lying. Oh you want me to actually do work? I thought that was a lie too."
Well, now you know... :(
