Get the new puppy pads, they have a target in the center, a scent to draw the puppy to the center and this stuff that soaks it up so it won't leak onto the floor when u clean up, amazing! better luck next time OP
You should have picked him up, taken him outside or to the bathroom or a window and worried about the punishment later.
You DO NOT punish a puppy for accidents. It scares them and does not encourage them to go outside. I'm really pissed I accidentally thumbed you up.
I thumbed this down. How is the dog going to realise there is even a problem. As far as I know the best way to train is positive reinforcement. Take them outside as often as needed and if you notice any signs of them needing, and once they do their business outside praise them and give them a treat or something. Puppies will have accidents as do children. it happens.
Every dog is different, as well as every pet owner. We scolded our puppies (when they were old enough to understand, of course) when they peed in the house by showing them their mess and saying, "No. You pee outside." If they went outside, they were rewarded with treats and a positive reaction. However, we didn't scold them ever if we knew it was our fault that they didn't get outside in time. We never ever hit our puppies, and we did our best to get them outside often enough. One thing I completely disagree with is punishing a puppy later. Puppies aren't going to remember what they did! If you insist on punishing a puppy, then at least do it while it still remembers. I think scolding is okay, as long as you don't mistake shouting for scolding.
Woooooow, calm the **** down. If you get "really pissed" by a comment, I don't even wanna know how you get when things that actually matter happen to you. Jeez.
You can't punish or correct a puppy later. If you don't see them doing it and stop them while they're doing it, you can't punish them for it. They won't understand why they're being punished. Though, I don't punish my puppy, I correct his behaviors gently and reward him for positive behaviors. That method has worked great with all the dogs I've ever had. Dogs thrive on attention and praise.
80, I was almost with the first half of your original comment. Taking the pup outside, although the window idea kind of disturbed me. As others have stated, you CAN NOT punish a dog for something after the fact. People like you who believe you can piss me off because you spew your idiocy and other morons reading it may believe it too, which can potentionally lead to more animal abuse, which I personally abhor. Please don't own animals until you can learn how to train and raise them properly. Oh, and as for how I react to things that really matter? Ask my boyfriend's black eye after he hit my dog. :) Mama wolf will **** you up.
Dogs are great but my two kitties never had an accident in the house ever. They knew you go in the box and everything stays nice and clean. Tried adopting a 10 week old puppy not only would it not physically leave the house for any reason without me picking it up and making her go outside she would also pee in her bed and sleep in it. Bathing a dog daily and washing the blankets and expensive dog bed repeatedly... Not worth the trouble. Good luck with the pup, I know I'm sticking to just cats.
I'm not really sure about the whole situation here, but hopefully you don't mean that you expected a 10 weeks old puppy to leave the house without you to do his business. It's your job to take her out to where she has to pee, she can't figure that out by herself.
Yeah, you probably shouldn't have a dog. I never leave mine outside by himself. Partly because I worry and want to keep an eye on everything he does, partly because he would whine and bark if I tried to leave him. Shepherds. :)
You misunderstood. I would open the door and she would cry I would try to coax her out with treats toys everything. She would not go outside with me or anyone. I had to pick her up every half hour put her on the grass and throw the biggest party if she actually did her business which happened maybe twice in two weeks. She also got super anxious and freaking out about a neighbour dog that was silent and she couldn't see. She would purposefully sleep in her pee as well. I knew then we weren't the right family especially after she nearly bit off my cats tail. My cats weren't safe, and we were miserable and unable to figure out what we were doing wrong... She stayed with a friend of the breeder (till we were able to give her back) who had dogs and our puppy did a zillion times better there. Puppies are a lot of work! Good Luck.
Dogs pee, that's what they do
This has so happened to me! Right after I shampooed all my carpet because of her peeing. The day they are house trained will be a happy day indeed! Good luck OP :) and btw, salt is an awesome pee cleaner! Takes it all out-no stains, no smell!
Lol that happened to me once the dog was scared to get in trouble so she ran all the way down the stairs still pissing.
that just really sucks.
I have two dogs, they're twin boys. Two things I learnt pretty early on is 1. NEVER clean up any dog urine messes with any product that has ammonia based products in it, the dogs associate the smell as somewhere they should go to pee and 2. after cleaning up the mess put their food bowl and food in the area you wish to discourage them from peeing in. Sure it may feel weird stepping over their food on the way to the bathroom but most dogs won't pee nearon their food. Eventually you can relocate the food to a more convenient place, you just want to do it long enough that they catch on not to pee there.

Bad luck brian.
Actually OP might have preferred that over peeing because its easier to clean up. Also if its carpet the pee smell is hard to get rid of and the puppy will want to pee there again.
