It's not exactly uncommon knowledge. But why does it matter if it's a guy teaching a girl? Yes it's a bit ironic but tampons have many other uses. Mainly to soak up blood but they are great gauze pads for anything.

my older cousin had to teach me when I was 15 as I didn't know either , and the first couple of months trying to use them I often put them in wrong (not inserted high enough) or was in pain . It is common even knowing your body to need help especially as it is hard to see when inserting for the first few times!
